[ Description ]

Memory is what connects us to the past, to our identity, to others. But what happens when it fades?

I wanted to explore this question through Alzheimer's disease, which today affects more than a million people in France. A disease that alters memories, transforms interactions and upsets both patients and their loved ones.

For several years, I have liked to immortalize everyday moments, whether in the form of photos, videos, texts, or even audio recordings. On October 30, 2016, I captured a family conversation at my grandparents' house, where we can hear members of my family talking, including my grandmother. I know today that she has Alzheimer's disease, which was already the case in 2016 when the recording was made, but where the symptoms were much less visible. In this recording, we hear about a trivial subject, in perfect harmony with what is happening around her. It may seem trivial, but for me, it is a precious testimony of the passing of time.

Since 2016, I have accumulated many audio recordings, silent witnesses of this slow deterioration. Year after year, I have perceived the changes, the silences that settle in, the words that become troubled. These recordings not only capture the evolution of the disease, but also the impact on those around her. Indeed, I do not know exactly what my grandmother feels, but I know what I feel about the impact of this disease on her.

This virtual reality project is an immersion in this space of memory. It questions memory, its alteration and the emotion it leaves behind. I invite you to explore it.
